Lampros Gavalakis is an INFORMED AI Hub Postdoctoral Research Associate based in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics, at the University of Cambridge. From 2022 to 2024 he was a postdoctoral fellow of the MathInGreaterParis programme, which is cofunded by the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions, based at Gustave Eiffel University.

He received his Ph.D. from the Engineering Department of the University of Cambridge, where he was working in the Signal Processing and Communications Laboratory, and his undergraduate degree in computer science from Athens University of Economics and Business. He is a recipient of the IEEE 2023 Jack Keil Wolf ISIT Student Paper Award.

His research interests lie broadly in information theory and probability, and include in particular discrete and continuous entropy power inequalities, entropic limit theorems, approximate capacity results, finite blocklength analysis and data compression.

Recent works include:

Relative entropy bounds for sampling with and without replacement (Johnson, Gavalakis, Kontoyiannis)

Lampros’s work for INFORMED AI will be developed with Ioannis Kontoyiannis.  More details in due course.  If you want to contact Lampros please see Cambridge research page for details.
